VISITING HOURS

The City Palace Museum, Udaipur

09:00 am – 09:00 pm

  • Zenana Mahal::

    This space was once thriving with activity. The Zenana Mahal was a Palace dedicated to and lived in solely by the royal ladies of the Palace. They used to have their own functions and celebrations, rituals and even durbars of their own where they would discuss on matters related to the Zenana.  The rooms have over the years been converted into galleries of the Museum.

  • Kanch Ki Burj::

    Glass inlay work is specialty of Rajasthan and this room, which once served as a winter bedroom to the Maharanas, makes use of the colours most closely associated with the land of Mewar; red, yellow and white, in a zig-zag pattern. The dome and the floor are fitted with mirrors and the doors to this room are of ivory.

  • Mor Chowk::

    The jewel of The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, Mor Chowk, reflects the finest workmanship of the people of Mewar. The intricate glass inlay adorning the peacocks that sprang across this Chowk is a specialty of the region. Beautiful as it is, it was reserved for meetings with high profile guests.

  • Baadi Mahal::

    The picturesque Baadi Mahal with its full-of-life garden and Mughal style, marble-finish, pillared corridor makes for a perfect place to unwind for our visitors. Partly open to the sky and with no floors below, the Baadi Mahal is at the topmost level of the Palace. The space was popularly put to use by the Royal family; for religious recitations, celebrations such as Holi and get-togethers such as birthdays.

  • Rai Angan::

    The foundations of The City Palace, Udaipur were laid at the northeast corner of this courtyard and there are no rooms below this. It is the oldest portion of the Palace, a classic example of 16th century architecture, built by Maharana Udai Singh when he made Udaipur the capital of Mewar. At that time, this space served as living quarters, with the Nav Chowki Mahal dedicated to the Zenana. The walls of this courtyard have over the years witnessed several coronation ceremonies of the Maharanas of Mewar. At various other points of time, the rooms served as royal treasury as well.
